Balance

2012 – 6′ wide, 45 tall. Two wave curtains undulating out of phase made of 1034 aluminum sections.

Balance was commissioned by the Belasting & Douane Museum, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. I was drawn to the space because of the tall but narrow proportions, combined with the full-length glass front, and a series of stairs and bridges along the inside which make for surprising views as you work your way though the museum.

Special thanks to everyone at the museum for a warm welcome to the Netherlands, but especially to Gijs Frieling, the Chief Government Art Advisor who saw this project through, including all the Dutch to English translation required for integrating the sculpture to the building, and for generally making a great experience in Rotterdam.
