Anemone

2017 – 54″ tall. Wood, steel, aluminum, 48 strings and two motors.

Standing just four and a half feet tall, Anemone is the smallest motorized wave sculpture I’ve built. It has two wooden helices near the ground. These rotate, and acting through 48 blue steel bars and an equal number of strings, give motion to the upper pink and yellow elements. The wooden helices in particular were very fun to make, and the aluminum ring near the top was the biggest thing I’ve ever turned on my lathe. The curved steel legs were left over from River Loom, and I was happy to find a good use for them.
